A Coach, a Guide,

a Companion on the Journey

Peter Melton is a lifelong golfer who is constantly exploring unique ways to enjoy golf and life. Born and raised as a middle child in the Monterey Bay area of California, he was a jester and storyteller from an early age.

Peter's first passion was golf, and his second was being a sports announcer. He started announcing Little League baseball games and continued through high school sports all the way to being a radio announcer and an on-air TV sports reporter.

Writing is his third passion. He has enjoyed putting words to paper since he learned about Japanese haiku poems in junior high.

Peter announced sporting events, played golf, and graduated from Watsonville High School. He also played golf at Cabrillo College and Hartnell College before earning his degree in communications and marketing from CSU Chico in 1987.  He continues to use his marketing skills in a variety of ways and uses his voice as an MC for events, as a karaoke singer, an occasional sports announcer, a wedding officiant, an auctioneer, and a high-spirited Oktoberfest host.

In 2018, Peter began a new passion project—he became a professional Santa Claus.  This activity combined his love of children with his joy of holiday magic. Ho ho ho! Peter is well-known for wearing a Hawaiian shirt as a Summer Santa in a local 4th of July parade.

Peter is a member of the Random Golf Club and The Twilight Social Club of Monterey, and a member of the Shivas Irons Society, a group dedicated to the bestselling golf book Golf in the Kingdom by Michael Murphy.  He is also an Ambassador for Royal and Awesome Clothing line.

He currently lives in the house he grew up in with his mother, June, in Royal Oaks, CA. Peter loves being an uncle, great uncle, and a grandfather to the two little granddaughters of his life partner, Hollie.

My father, Don Melton, introduced me to the game of golf at an early age and it helped that we lived near the Pajaro Valley Golf Course in the Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay Area. My mother June took up the game in her retirement years and is still playing at 88. As I tried to teach her how to enjoy golf, little did I know that I was teaching myself. She played a key role in the creation of The Invis-a-ball Training and with Conversations with Par.

My Dad played a lot of golf and enjoyed most of it until he passed away in 2015. We dedicated this bench and plaque to him on the 4th hole at the Spring Hills Golf Course in Watsonville, CA.
